Áldu (Female Reindeer)
1817 World Map
Artist: Elina Nygard North Sami (Sweden)
Map Origin: Drawn & engraved by James Kirkwood & Son for John Thomson's "New General Atlas,” Edinburgh
From the Artist: This is a Female reindeer, from which the world is created. In the beginning there was nothing but a dark ocean with scary things in it. The highest of the gods asked his son, the sun, to shine on that dark water and he created the world out of a part from the reindeer.
Map is placed in archival quality black mat.
