Monarch Butterfly Pottery Plate with Lady Bug Friend

Award winner potter Carolyn has created a lovely example of Mimbres fine-line style in her miniature plates.  Her pieces are hand formed with the native shale clay of the Acoma area, and painted with iron oxides, natural sand pigments and boiled bee weed juice.  A white slip is strained to a fine clay and applied before burnishing with a polishing stone. A final firing brings rich color to life.

Thus is created a plate with dimensional butterfly and geometric designs, complete with lady bug friend on bottom!
