Willow, by Mark Shelton

Willow is based on a photograph taken by legendary photographer Edward Curtis. Within his collection, the photograph is identified as "Plate 545 Lahla ("Willow") - Taos."   The subject is a Tewa man from the Taos Pueblo of New Mexico.

Mark chose acrylic paint enhanced with pulverized iron and stainless steel, and a sgraffito and knife technique to capture the rich tones of the original plate.  A metal gold-tone frame perfectly encapsulates the portrait of man both serene and longing in his countenance.
